My cousin broke her ankle in 3 places and had surgery in Tennessee while visiting her grandchildren. She's back in Georgia and can't find a orthopedic surgeon for her 2 week check because they didn't do the surgery
Do you guys have any advice

Resurgens Orthopedic. They are really good. I am not sure about a follow up though. She may have to go back to the original surgeon.

Maybe a referral?

Maybe the original surgeon could do a referral to a surgeon in her area. They might take her as a patient that way.

I agree with seeing if the original surgeon will make a referral. However, most surgeons do not want to care for someone they did not operate on.

This was one of my problems when my knee replacement surgery was botched. I could not find anyone to help fix me. No one wanted to touch the mistake. After much persistence, I finally found a HERO surgeon who helped.

Call the health insurance carrier. They be able to help. I found an ally in one of the customer care agents with insurance group. She even called doctors for me.

DH broke his arm in a motorcycle fall a few hundred miles from home. (I remember it well because I hate to drive far and I had to drive to pick him up—fortunately the friend I was walking with when I got the call offered to go with me.) When it came time for the cast to be removed, “our” doctor wouldn’t do it. By then DH was well enough to drive himself back to get the cast off. He was retired and fortunately I was working so couldn’t accompany him. Darn.

Good luck!

I agree with her contacting the original doc for a referral. Two of my kids have had surgeries in one place and follow-ups in another (one in-state, one out of state).
