Not going to panic.....yet.

First world problem alert!
So after our eventful morning, things have settled down. We are nice and cool. All the food in the freezer is good. We are very thankful!
Now the problem, I am in classes for my specialist degree. We are coming up on the end of the class, which means heavy assignments. I have an assignment due Wednesday that was just posted. My friend told me about it. I cannot access it on my phone and pulling it with the Hotspot is going to take too much data. Public library is out because too much trouble is brewing in that area to sit in the car. I have no idea how I am going to be able to get it done!
Internet folks are coming to take a look Monday afternoon. This is THE assignment for the class. It is going to take time.
Would it be unprofessional to send an email to the professor explaining the situation? I am not a slacker. My assignments are never late. I just do not know that I will be able to meet the deadline and turn in quality work.
Any advice, including suck it buttercup, would be greatly appreciated.

Send a detailed message to professor. State the problem and how you are attempting to circumvent it.

Could you spend a night at a cheap hotel if the professor does not cooperate? Is there a local coffee shop or mall you could go to tomorrow? Good luck!

I will send an email. Thank you!
Most of the places here have closed indoor dining. I could probably go somewhere to pull the assignment, but these jokers take a long time to complete. I can't sit in the parking lot that long Right now, I do not know for sure what the assignment will require, but if it is anything like the other one last class, it will require a lot of internet research.

I did not go to our mall before all the craziness started. I would prefer my car not get stolen! It is not very safe! There have been multiple shootings. We avoid the area.

a McDonalds nearby? In my area, they have free wifi and I don't know that a car sitting there for a length of time would really be noticed.

Do you know someone who would let you sit in their yard or on their porch and use their internet?

Is your friend able to email you the assignment?

Then, you could download it which wouldn’t use as much data... work on it at home and then go somewhere to use WiFi to upload your work.

Almost every place I can think of has guest WiFi that you could connect to... even a doctor/dental office/hospital.
Starbucks or any coffee shop I would imagine has outdoor seating that you could use and still utilize their WiFi.

I would see if I could sit on a friend's patio/porch and use their internet. I would also email professor and explain in detail your situation.

I know my DD has bought a dim card for an old phone for around $35 for a month when she needed data.

I would try to print out all requirements and chunk my time. Today I'll sit at location and get part 1 done.

McDonalds parking lot is always a good idea too

I will check a couple of places right here at the house. I may even try the elementary school lot. I am hoping mom and dad will be able to get their's connected before ours. If so it will just put me a little behind. I was able to pull the assignment up on my phone to see what I have to do. It is just like the assignment I had to do for the last class. It will take 15 to 20 hours to complete. It may just mean some late nights when we do get connection back. I hate the thought of missing a deadline! My type A personality finds that unacceptable!

It sounds like you have some good ideas. I would definitely email the professor ASAP, explaining what the problem is and what your tentative plans are for completing the work. Then get busy and get as much done as you can. Let's hope that you'll be able to get the entire assignment done on time--but the professor is much more likely to be sympathetic and grant an extension is you email now.

If you wait until it's due to notify him/her that you can't get it done, they'll be wondering what you were doing all this time and questioning the validity of your story.

I agree, you need to email your professor and let them know what is happening. Maybe you won't need the extension but at least you have talked with your professor. Good Luck.

Anyway you can find an Airbnb in your area? Obviously depending on where you live, they can be reasonably priced.

Good luck!
