Just wanted to share what I've been working on the last while.

This is my Home Reading Olympics Program. It combines the genre bingo idea that I came across on PT (thank you kindly to whoever shared their idea- I honestly can't remember who but want to give credit) and reading responses.

I teach 6th and home reading is encouraged of course, but not assigned as 'homework' per say. So I tried to make it leveled and therefore more motivational, to move to the next level.

My idea is that students have all year to move through the Olympic Athlete, Bronze Medal, Silver Medal and Gold Medal stages. When they get to Gold, they get a certificate. If not, at the end of the year, they get a certificate for whatever level they have reached.

Anywho- just wanted to share in case anyone could use it (or parts of it)

I have been laboring over how to include genre study along with doing a reading homework program that will keep the kids interested as well as providing accountability. Your program is perfect for that! Now I can use my Around the World in Eighty Book for my in class independent reading assignments.

Yes, I begin within the first week or two in September. In my 'welcome to 6K' letter that goes out to parents in the first couple of days in September, I tell the parents that we have an Olympic Reading program and that the students will bring it home and explain it to them.

I have already popped into the school and copied all for the year. I color coded them- Athlete was green (green means go!), Bronze was on a lt brown paper, Silver was on gray and Gold was on golden yellow. I also copied the certificates on corresponding colors. I figure if I have left overs, I will have less to copy for the following year. But I am hoping that I go through all of the pages and that students will find it motivating

Also- found a typo: the was actually supposed to be a colon and the letter p
