Notice of required retroactive certification

Quote:
EDD: NOTICE OF REQUIRED RETROACTIVE CERTIFICATION 7/9/20
You are receiving this notice because you need to retroactively certify for unemployment benefits you received. Employment Development Department (EDD) records show that you have benefit weeks that were automatically processed for claim dates during the weeks ending February 8 - May 9, 2020. This was an emergency effort to help process a historically high number of unemployment claims.

Now, you must certify for the benefit weeks that were paid. You must submit this certification, known as retroactive certification, by October 5, 2020. If you do not submit your retroactive certification, we will make an eligibility determination based on information available, which may impact your benefit payments.
Quote:
Start Your Retroactive Certification
To retroactively certify, you will need your:

Last name
Date of birth
Social Security number
Quote:
How It Works
You must submit any retroactive certifications by October 5, 2020. This will help us determine if you were eligible to receive benefits during the waived certification period.

For these waived weeks, use the retroactive certification application. Reporting wages in Ask EDD is not considered a certification. You must certify even if you did not work or earn wages.

If you do not retroactively certify, we will make a determination based on information available. If you were not eligible for benefits, you may receive a Notice of Overpayment, and you must repay the EDD.
Is it a scam? Appears not. Watch...

Anyone else receive this email?

I got it and did it. I don't think it is a scam because it didn't ask for any information.

I did mine as well, only had to do the basic questions for two weeks (in my case). Easy Peasy. Let's see if EDD will screw this up as is their want (sometimes).

Two weeks back and I donít remember March or May that they said we didnít have to certify for at the time, however, I certified at the time anyway. I believe whatís going out now is It is being sent to people who did not certify for those weeks because they were told at the time they did not have to, but now you have to. I would only do it through the official EDD website.

Not a scam, there were weeks back in April/May when the EDD website was overwhelmed and people were getting dropped in the middle of trying to certify weeks. I did mine earlier this week.

I remember that very vividly. Site kept crashing even when I tried to certify after reading the message not to...

I remember seeing a message giving us the option to certify at a later date bcz they were experiencing issues, but I said - I'm going to try and see what happens...luckily, it let me certify. But yes, I'd certify as soon as possible now, if I hadn't been able to back then. Btw, I think we have one more certification to go with the CARES funding right? Mine's is 7/19.
