Do people really do these things?

On fb I've had these life hack videos pop up. Apparently fb thinks I like them because I keep watching them, and now they keep showing them to me, but really it's one of those things that I just can't look away.

Here's what I remember from the latest video.
1. Put blobs of toothpaste on a cookie sheet and freeze. (Sprinkle something over them, but can't remember what.) Take them out, put them in a container, and you have blobs of toothpaste "to go". It showed a girl popping one in her mouth and then brushing her teeth. (Are those really more convenient than a trial size toothpaste?)

2. Cut the very bottom of a 2-liter pop container. Fill the bottom with water and freeze. You get 1 large ice cube in a fun, flowerish shape.

3. Cut apart the top of a toothpaste tube. Attach a balloon somehow. Fill the balloon with soap and crew toothpaste top on. You now have a balloon-full of soap that you can keep in your purse to wash your hands with.

4. Duct tape four wood blocks around an orange. I'm serious. Freeze it. Take off the wood blocks. The orange will be squished. Slice it and you have....frozen orange squares???

I crack up while watching these and wonder who comes up with them! It seems like some people must have a lot of time on their hands to dream these things up. I'd love to know if anyone has tried any of these things!

Remember when I asked about reactions to posts?

I love the way you wrote this. Still laughing.

I really want to make something stupid like that and then track how many people watch or read it.

I watch these often, too! Sometimes I think they hook you in the beginning when they have a good idea. Then, they get very strange.

I just watched one about putting an egg in vinegar and various other things. Why? Couldn’t tell you. I’m amazed people think of these things.

We did find one useful one. We made a soap dish out of a hollowed out sponge. I couldn’t get a soap dish to attach to the shower wall, and it slid off the built in shelf. The sponge is great.

I have always wondered that too! I definitely get sucked into watching those sometimes, but have never tried any of the "hacks."

I often wonder how in the heck do people come up with this stuff?

It sounds like meaningless things to me. Some hacks are more work or not convenient as they should be.

Here 2 of my favorites...

If you are at a friend's house and you take your shoes off and have a hole in your black sock...just color your toe with black sharpie!

If you are wearing high heels that are too big just take clear packing tape and tape all the way around your foot and shoe to keep them on

Kahlua, please let us know when you do this. Run it by PT first.

Kbbteacher, those are awesome, too!

My favorite "life changing" hack that I've seen recently is:

Don't leave your bra on when you go to bed.

Someone actually mad a video of the girl with her back to the camera taking off her bra before putting on her pj's. Duh!!! My life will never be the same!

Do you know how many people sent me the “stick a hot piece of charcoal in a jar of peanut butter and make a crystal” video?!

THAT DOESN’T WORK!

So much wasted peanut butter....

These pop up on mine, too, and find them hilarious.

Here’s one I want to know about: urban myth or true?

If something is wrinkled from traveling, hang it in the bathroom while you shower and voila! Wrinkles be gone. I’ve never had this work.

Kahlua: do it!!!

I am constantly amazed. I barely have time to do stuff that makes sense, much less these "hacks".

This has never worked for me. However, throwing something in the dryer with a wet item (I usually do a small kitchen towel that I just rinse in the sink and wring out- not soaking wet) for 10 minutes almost always does.

ETA: Just noticed the "traveling" part, so I guess in most cases you wouldn't have access to a dryer. But I do this at home and it saves me from having to iron 95% of the time and works for items that aren't supposed to be ironed.

Here's what my college roommate taught me:
Hang it up the night before. Get your hand wet with water and grab different parts of the shirt/dress with your wet hand to dampen it a bit. Use a little more water if it's really wrinkly. In the morning when it dries it will definitely be better. Not always perfect, but wearable.

What PT life hack should we do?

Those little punchy things on plastic wrap and foil? Salsa chicken? What else do we have?

During the summer- turning on the dryer with a scented sheet in it and running the dishwasher right before your dh gets home so it appears you have actually done something....

Good one, Claire! Kind of an upgraded throw flour on your face for Rice Krispie treats....
