HI,

Does anyone know of some general interview questions that a principal and/or teachers may ask during a special ed. interview? This is for an elementary school. I will be having my first SPED interview soon.

Thank you so much!

A few that I remember were:

Why Special Education?

My teaching style...My answer was Whatever style my students learn best. My style may change from student to student.

Tell about a difficult situation during your student teaching, college, or at another job and how did you handle it?

What are your plans regarding teaching 5 years from now.

Describe yourself.

These are just a few that I remember off the top of my head. Hope they help.

Hi
I was once asked what book I was reading...and when I had an answer he said you wouldn't believe how many candidates said nothing, they didn't have the time....he didn't want the answer nothing...

how would you handle a student who just isn't learning no matter what you try?

how would you handle a regular ed teacher who is not happy with when you pull a child out of his/her class?

How would you schedule your children grades k - 4 (or what ever level the school is)

you have a budget of $300 what would you buy...

what would you do if an angry parent showed up at your classroom door right in the middle of teaching?

how will you keep track of your student's goals?

these are all questions I've been asked

How do you keep in contact with parents? ...with reg. ed teachers?

What stresses you out the most? How do you handle the stress?

How familiar are you with writing IEP's and keeping up with the documentation required?

How do you use technology in your classroom?

What do you feel about inclusion?

Describe a behavior problem you have had in your classroom and how you handled it.

GOOD LUCK!

What I remember

Here are the questions I remember from my interview:

What are your stengths/weakness?

What type of reading/math programs have you used in the past?

Hypothetical questions like how would you handle a teacher who does not want to make accomodations for a spec. student in a general ed. classroom?

How would you handle parents in various situations? (again hypothetical questions)

How will you make accomodations for students with various learning levels.?

Just a little tip - I don't know if you are planning on it already, but prepare a list of questions you would like to ask the school distirct. Remember they are not only interviewing you, but you are also interviewing them!

I was asked about progress monitoring (how done, what forms I would use) in every interview.
