How many special ed teachers do you have? There are 4 of us. I do K-3 resource. There's a 4th grade resource teacher and a 5th grade resource teacher. Then 1 self-contained K-5 classroom.

My caseload is 8.
I teach in a self-contained classroom with students with Emotional and Behavioral problems. My class this year is 4th grade, but I have had classrooms that have had students ranging from K-2.

Our school has 200 students.

There are 6 self contained classroom teachers in our building, as well as one support room teacher for students in crisis. We also have 3 full time social workers on staff. There is a resource teacher as well for students not in self contained classrooms.

How many do you have on your caseload? I go between 2 buildings. Legally we can have 20 total. I have 10 in one school and 4 in the other school. BUT...with RtI I have picked up 2 in one school and 1 in the other that are in tier 3. My guess is all 3 will eventually get IEP's bringing me to 16.

My school has about 750 students.

We have 4 special Ed teachers including myself. 2 teach mild/mod self contained classes, 1 teaches mod/sev and I do resource. We are also expected to be run Rti. We are very impacted and set up for failure. That said I do my best and work hard for my students!

I teach self-contained kids that are mentally handicapped. I have 10 students in 4th and 5th grade and 1 in 2nd grade. We have 2 units at our school. The 2nd grader is with me due to major medical issues~ William's Syndrome with serious blood pressure problems. I moved up with my class and chose to take him with me. I must monitor his blood pressure throughout the day and I choose to administer his blood pressure medication (as opposed to the office staff). I have a teacher assistant also. She is my "angel" and I couldn't do the job I do each day without her by my side. I have a wonderful class and feel very blessed. Because they are so wonderful, it allows me to try so many of the things that I learned about on PT this summer!

My principal says she expects a lesson plan. My reply, would you show me how to write a plan that fits 26 students and 20 grade level teachers? I'm still waiting. I generally make notes and use the pacing guide when I go into the various classes. I keep plenty of antedotal notes, because most teachers are working on different skills, some are fast others are behind. If I need to do something different that's working for you please advise.

This makes it interesting because I have a high runner, a moderate runner, on student who is embrassed to seen in public with his class (he realizes how low they are and is just realizing he's lowe than his grade level peers, but higher than a mjr. of his contained class). I can have up to 14 before the district will give me a floater.

How many special ed teachers do you have? 2 The other SpEd teacher has 24.

I am glad you asked this question. Based on the present responses it seems that 31 is very high. We are feeling the pain - too much work, too tight a schedule and an admin that cuts no slack!

Does anyone else find the need to change student IEP minutes to meet the schedule at the beginning of each year? We must work around recesses lunches and specialists. SpEd competes with Gen Ed teachers for the students' time. When teachers are added or shifted, the specialist schedule changes. Each year we have to amend the IEP to fit the schoolyear's schedule. Doesn't seem right does it?
