Black Friday Shopping

Do you go shopping on Thanksgiving or Black Friday? What deals/bargains are you watching for?

DH and I will have Thanksgiving lunch with family, then travel to Dallas for the night. We'll stop at a couple of store Thanksgiving night if they're open. Then we'll get up early on Black Friday and shop. We really never buy anything during Black Friday, we just like the chance to get away since it seems like we don't spend much time together during the first semester of school. :-)

I haven't actually woken up at 3a or so and hit the mall in ages and I don't plan to on any near future Black Fridays.

I'll ONLINE shop though!

Exactly. Cyber Monday is a whole other story. Love coming home from work that day, making some cocoa or decaf, and firing up the laptop!

No thank you. I don't like crowds, so that wouldn't be fun for me at all.

from time to time. Before they started opening on Thursday nights. I just have a thing about stores opening on Thanksgiving, and and I think that if it wasn't profitable, they wouldn't do it. So it's my own personal boycott, and it probably effects very little, so I jusg miss out. And now the Friday sales aren't as good, because their best deals went Thursday night.

But back in the day, I remember getting three black navy pea coats for my daughters from Sears. 70% off. We went the Wednesday before, to make sure we knew where they would be, got to the store early so we'd be first in, and all the girls raced, got the coats in their size, and we were at the checkout line at 4:05. Someone tried to snatch the coats off the little hook the cashier hung them on to wrap them. We left at 4:10, got hot chocolate at 7 Eleven, and were in bed by 4:45 am.

That's the only way I'd be interested in Black Friday shopping, if it was attached to a nice getaway. There's never been anything worth getting up early and fighting the crowds for. So many places are having big sales all month and like others, I prefer to do bargain shopping online.

Too crowded. Any deals you can probably get on line. We took the ferry to block island the day after thanksgiving last year. They have end of season sales at all the little shops and then we ate lunch. They make a giant Christmas tree out of old lobster pots too.

I have never gone shopping on Thanksgiving Day and probably never will. We always leave our house at 11am and drive to my parentís house 90 minutes away. We staythe rest of the day and overnight. We travel to Indianapolis on Friday morning and arrive in the afternoon.

We usually walk the downtown mall for a little bit in the afternoon before attending the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. We rarely ever really buy anything at the mall except for lunch.

I'm with PE on this. I think it's horrifying this has become a thing. I love REI for many reasons, but #OptOutside is one of them.

DD#1 was pregnant and wanted to do shopping. I kept the shopping cart in the line while she went and got her items. I had water and snacks for her. Little did we know that in six weeks she'd be on complete bed rest. I had a 'mom sense' about letting her be in the crowds alone and I'm not a helicopter mom.
One other time I had insomnia so I got up and did the 4am thing at Kohl's.

I do not go out shopping on Thanksgiving. It is a day for family, and I think it is crazy that stores are open.

I have only been out on Black Friday once, and that was in the afternoon. I will not do that again. I can't stand people on a normal shopping day, they are beyond crazy on Black Friday!

I’m another minority who likes Black Friday shopping. I was unable to leave the house the last 2 years and this year our family is doing our turkey dinner on Friday. Maybe next year.

I am, however, quite proficient and very well practiced at online shopping.

I do 99% of all my shopping online so I have never gone out to fight crowds on Black Friday. This day has never appealed to me even though I like to occasionally go out and see the store decorations...after black Friday is over.

Some of Black Friday sales have already started. Yesterday I found a passport wallet for $12 and today I scored a quality tankini for $14.99 on Amazon. Yay!

I have gone off the mountain on Saturday ( is there even a Black Saturday) . It seems to be a little less crowded. I know that if I don't get myself in the swing of things that weekend I just don't have the time after that. . . nor the desire. Years ago I would go shopping the Friday prior to Thanksgiving week to Cabazon mall which very close to my school. I stumbled upon some great deals that used to be put out early because I guess it's one of the busiest mall in SoCal on Black Friday so they wanted to get their merchandise out early.

If I do shop on Friday I remain on the mountain and go to our local village. They have a community tree lighting, carolers, and serve hot chocolate on the sidewalks. I'm seriously desperate for a new purse so I might just mosey on over to COACH outlet. . .or maybe not .

I don't but once in a while DD and I have gone out in the late afternoon on Black Friday. I need my rest in the morning, too much rushing around during the work week. By the afternoon the crowds were less and it was more of a regular shopping day it seemed. We were never looking for anything in particular, she just wanted to say she went . Now she's working so no shopping for us.

shopped on Black Friday! There is nothing that I want that badly! Our family has moved away from giving gifts. Our gift to each other is to spend time together, and since this depends greatly on travel- it can be very costly. I bake far too many cookies to give to DD's, my parents and my DMIL.

Noooooooo...... I tried it for many years and there was only ONE time that I actually got a good deal. The rest of the time they were "sold out" when I walked in the door (even when I was the first one in the store! ) or greedy people had them piled in their carts so no more were on the shelf.

I love to shop, definitely my favorite pastime, but it's no fun on Black Friday. Instead, I sleep in and relax then order online.

My exception is my local boutique who had great Black Friday deals last year and no crowds like the malls and Walmart. I got Piko dresses (with pockets!) for $10. I bought 7-8 in long/short sleeves and different colors. So easy for dressing for work!

I love Black Friday shopping!

I've gone for many, many years. I don't typically have any agenda, I just go out and see what things I can find. Most of the time I'm shopping for myself, not for presents.

There were a few years that EX wouldn't let me go. He threw such a toddler-tantrum fit when it was mentiioned that I just stopped. Fortunately DH will go with me.

I already ordered an Amazon Fire stick today. They had a deal on a Fire stick plus an Echo Dot for $39, so I snatched one up. I almost bought two. The only other items on our search list are a king-size electric blanket and an office chair.

We will head out for shopping around 10:00 on Thursday night. We usually try Kohl's, and sometimes we go to Walmart or JC Penney or Michael's. I will need to sit around on Thursday afternoon and make my game plan for shopping. I do that while the rest of the family talks or plays cards.

I went one time with a friend back in college and was relatively unimpressed. I haven't been since. The deals didn't seem that worth it, and most people are unable to get the really good deals on big things like electronics. Around here, people will literally start camping out outside of Best Buy for a week beforehand. I would NEVER do that; the whole idea seems completely absurd to me. I visit my hometown for Thanksgiving and almost always end up flying back on Friday because the flights are cheapest that day.

Nope. The only thing we will buy "on"Black Friday is snow tires because it is buy 2 get 2 free. We have done this a few times over the last several years, but they let you buy them all week for that sale since we are "loyal" customers ( on their email list)

No to shopping on Thanksgiving, but a resounding YES to shopping on Black Friday! My two dds and I consider it a holiday! We have a great time together. In order to enjoy Black Friday, you just have to have some patience and learn what stores are worth going to and which ones are not. Having a plan of action is necessary also--I always peruse the sale ads beforehand and map out our plan of attack. We eat breakfast out as well as lunch. We enjoy it.

Side note: I also do a good amount of online shopping, too!

I love getting out on Black Friday. For Thanksgiving I am in Mass and they have a law that stores canít open until midnight. I get up at my normal time of 5am and the go to the mall. I usually get there by 7. Most of the crowds have gone and the 2nd wave has yet to hit. It is wonderful.

Like other posters I would never go
To a store on Thanksgiving. Thatnday should be about family and friends.

I go on Black Friday every year. While there are times I am looking for a specific thing or two, most of it for me is just being out and relishing in the excitement of the whole thing!
