Would you cancel?

I have a dentist appt scheduled for Weds for an overdue cleaning. It takes awhile to get an after-school time. I'm 99% sure we won't have school on Wednesday or Thursday. Predicted windchills could get as low as -50s. The actual temp high predicted is -13. I'm debating whether to cancel. The appt will be after the sun has gone down. Really, I just don't want to go to the dentist, especially in the cold. But I probably could. I'm assuming my car would start for the ride home (it will be in the garage when I leave). Would you cancel?

If you think you can get there safely

I would go get it over with. If you are afraid you can not drive in the conditions safely I would reschedule.

Stay warm!

I would go. But, then again, I have never thought not to go because it is cold. It is part of living in Maine.

I wouldn't! I'd keep the appointment. After school times are very hard to get and you mentioned you were already overdue. Dress warmly!

Don't cancel it; at least not yet.

If you don't have school on Wednesday or Thursday, but you could safely drive, call first thing and see if they have had a cancellation. Other people may choose not to go, then you could go earlier in the day.

Just a thought.

Wow....you're a hardy bunch on PT!!! I'd cancel and reschedule for July, Brush and floss religiously and unless you suspect you have a problem, I'd stay home under the covers watching Netflix the whole la-dee-dah day! Just remember to call and cancel so they don't charge you.

You could reschedule for an earlier appt when you are sure there wont be school on that day. My bet is that there will be earlier cancellation which you vould take.

Suck it up and GO! I get that it's cold, but dental health is more than just keeping your teeth clean. Poor dental health as been linked to heart disease and certain types of cancer.
When you're done, get yourself all snoodled up in a comfy blanket and fuzzy socks and sip hot cocoa.

If your dentist is like mine, they will hound you until you get there so I would just go and get it over with .

Iím assuming the appt is for you? If so, ask yourself if you would cancel it if the appt was for someone you love. Take as good care of yourself as you would for those you love!

Okay, okay, I will go! You guys are a hearty, hygienic bunch! I think I mainly am just not in the mood for the dentist and am looking for any excuse to cancel. It's not that I hate the dentist, it just sounds more pleasant to stay home and be warm and cozy. That's a good idea about calling and seeing if there are cancellations. I'd rather go during daylight when it feels a bit warmer than in the dark.

Where I am located the dental offices themselves would probably reschedule everyone or at the very least move all the appointments up and close early. There is bound to be a cancelation that day. The minute they announce school will be closed I would call. Heck where I live if school is cancelled everything follows
suit. . .that means the roads aren't safe.

I'd also call in the morning to see about cancellations also to check on staffing. Perhaps some of the employees won't make it in either that day.

Just for an overdue cleaning? I would cancel in the winter months in a heartbeat.

Schedule it for the nicer months. Just brush and floss until then....If there aren't any health problems, you'll be fine.

If you're also getting the blizzard like weather tomorrow, you'll likely have blowing and drifting snow in addition to 55 below windchills Wednesday and Thursday. Depending on how far away your dentist is and if you're on major roads or country roads, I might cancel. I think it's better to wait until the day before or the day of and make the decision then. I've read that 55 below wind chills can cause frostbite in 5 minutes. If you, God forbid, were in an accident or even just slid off the roads, you would be in a precarious situation.

I know from your posts and profile that you live in the same metro area as I do. Our area is going to have the lowest high temperature in history on Wednesday with a high of -14. Most likely, as you said, schools will be closed. It would be dangerous to go out in that kind of weather. The area has never seen it that cold.
If your appointment is on Wednesday, I personally would not risk that for just a routine cleaning. That appointment can be rescheduled for any time.

If your appointment is on Thursday, it will still be cold and school might still be closed, but it wonít be as bad so you could probably keep the appointment.

Yes, Jazzer and Chronicfun, I think we live in the same area. Yes, my fear now would be more that something would happen to my car and I would be stuck with no heat. I was out in the snow last night and visibility was really poor and that made me worry more. I'll probably call tomorrow and see what they say....I'm wondering if they might close!
