Does your school allow students to wear their costumes to school on Halloween?

Ours does, but we have a costume parade for Pre-K through 2 starting at 8:15, followed by a vocabulary parade for 3-5. Each of the third through fifth graders thinks of a vocabulary word to describe their costume. They get on stage, read their word and definition, as well as a sentence that uses the word. After the vocabulary parade, we go back to our classroom for our party. Once our party is over, costumes are packed up. We are back to our normal selves by 9:30! Of the three schools I have taught at, this is the only one that allowed costumes.

Yep. Historically we've had a parade at 10:30 so kids were dressed up all day. This year it was moved to the beginning of the day so hopefully they will change after and be done with it.

Nope. We do have a book parade in August where kids dress up as their favourite storybook character and we run a lot of fun activities based around stories and reading. I prefer it, but I also grew up in Australia in the 90's, which means Halloween was not part of my childhood. It is getting bigger here, so I can see that it might eventually become part of school festivities. We'll see.

next week so all will dress up each day with the Drug Free theme of the day...

Ironically, the High school is allowing costumes (within the guidelines) but the Elem and MS will not...
