to a huge fire in Irvine, CA, he is on notice that he may have to evacuate. He lives in the next city, Lake Forest. Is there no end to the hell of 2020?

Thinking good thoughts for your son! I hope the fire is out soon, with no further damage.

2020 isn't over until it's over

I told him to leave, but where?

Can you imagine the traffic? They already told 60K to evacuate from Irvine.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope everything will be ok and he won't need to evacuate. I've had enough of 2020. It needs to go away.

He should probably head south towards San Juan Capistrano and San Diego. The fire seems to be just NW of Lake Forest, so that's why Northwood and Irvine are being evacuated. The southbound 5 freeway so far is still not bad from what I can tell.

Oh wow. Just read about it. I lived in and around Irvine for years and still have many friends down there. Those Santa Ana winds can be horrible. One thing I can say for Irvine is that the road system is stellar - I'm sure that helped a ton with evacuations.

He and his GF are leaving now.

This is the scene behind their house. They have not been formally evacuated yet, but decided to go anyway. They will either stay with friends or get a hotel for tonight.

Glad your son is getting out of the area. My grandson is in Irvine also. He says the fires are close but no evacuation order yet. Hopefully hes paying attention to alerts. Having been through this myself last month I know how quickly things change.

I'm glad he decided to evacuate. Edison sent out alerts that the power may be going out. No one wants to evacuate in the dark.
I'll be praying.

They ended up staying in a hotel

in Carlsbad, which is maybe 30 miles from Lake Forest. Hoping things settle down today. The worst part is that they have basically not gone ANYWHERE at all since late March. Both work at home. What a shock it must have been for them to go anywhere at all.

I hope your son and his family will be safe during evacuation and soon be able to return home. These CA fires are scary.
