Group Work/Partner Work

Clip to ScrapBook #1

We've been told that if we are back next year, even has a hybrid model, small group lessons, group work, partner work, will most likely not happen unless we can find a way to do it while maintaining social distancing. We were told to look for creative ways to allow kids to collaborate. I'm guessing this means some type of technology even in the classroom.

I LOVE doing group work and partner work. So many of my lessons are group activities, partner activities, etc. Any ideas on how to creatively make this work?

I'll have 1st. I'm thinking of somehow pairing students (distantly) so that they can hop up and sit on their desks facing their partner. They could either talk from there, or use whiteboards and talk to each other by writing messages.

I'm stumped for math workshop. Maybe I can put them in rows, and each row would have the same activity.

This is going to be interesting.....

Iím trying out Jamboard This summer. If you havenít tried it, it is a whiteboard through Google that will allow everyone to work on it together in real time. So, while my online student is doing math problems, I can point to something he needs to pay attention to or circle a number he needs to be double checking, etc. You can upload images, so Iím creating boards with basic math manipulatives that we can use together. You can find clipart on teachers pay teachers for cube counters, ones and tens box, coins, And pretty much anything else you would want. Much of it is free. If your kids have devices, they could work together even during distance learning.

We have iPads on a cart that is shared among 1st and 2nd grades, so maybe we can divide them up and have at least 5 each. I'll check out Jamboard!
