Whatís your favorite mystery book for grades 5-6? I used to love The Westing Game but another grade has started using it so I need something similar. Help!

That’s frustrating! The westing Game was my first thought when I read your first sentence, it’s what I always used in 6th.

What about Chasing Vermeer, by Blue Balliet? It has a fun mystery plus the added puzzle of the pentominoes in the illustrations.

Also, When You Reach Me, by Rebecca Stead is a great book. Not quite a mystery, but close enough for me! My students loved this novel.

Wolfstalker by Skurzynski and Ferguson (Or Deadly Waters or Out of the Deep)

The Mysterious Benedict Society

Mr. Limoncello's Library

From the Mixed Up Files of Basil E. Frankweiler

Eleven

Just a few that I could think of. I personally LOVE Wolfstalker and The Mysterious Benedict Society!!

From the Mixed-Up Files was always my favorite go-to for 4th and 5th graders. Has a special place in my heart (there is a WAY OLD movie that goes with it called The Hideaways.) I had my students watch it during quarantine.
