It just occurred to me that when we go back to school if we have to wear masks, Iím not going be able to hear the kids! You know, I teach kindergarten I am way up here and they are way down there. Plus they donít even look at you half the time they talk, the face the opposite direction pointing . Not to mention the kids that have speech impediments.

Iím just thinking aloud because this just occurred to me today .

My K classes are always crazy loud. Maybe this will bring the loud ones down to a moderate level.

But I do understand what you mean. Masked teachers and students will offer a lot of issues.

I do understand my masked 5-year-old when he talks. My mumbling teenager is another issue.

I have hearing trouble anyway. I watch mouths when people talk. I tell my kids to get my attention and look at me when they talk.

In stores I canít understand half of what people say to me. Sometimes Iím not even sure they are talking to me.

I've thought of this. Especially with my speech kids and my language learners. I already have a really hard time hearing them. It will also be hard to figure out the errors they are making when we are doing phonics and they are starting to sound out words.

I saw cloth masks that have clear plastic where the mouth is. Sorry, but I can't remember where I saw them. They are out there and would make teaching K's much easier.
