Number Sense Lesson Ideas

Does anyone have any ideas for number sense lessons that I could prerecord myself doing? We're about to start that unit as a review. One idea I already have is a review of the "counting on" strategy, and showing them how to play a counting on game using either dice, playing cards, or even homemade dot cards.

I just thought of another one - I should probably do a mini lesson on teen numbers. My kids often get those confused (13 written as 31, etc).

If it's review, you could do a flash and show where you flash a number in a 10's frame or random group. Give them a second to say it or show it on their fingers, and then give the answer. Better as an interactive lesson but still easy to do, especially as a warm-up to a lesson.

Hopping up and down the number line. Start at a number, roll a die or pull another card and hop that many up or down.

Showing different combinations of numbers. You could do it where you drop two sided counters and show it on a tens frame, as an equation, and with a number tree.

Gosh - most of the things that come to mind are so interactive and totally depend on either manipulatives or the kids being present!

Thanks! I do love those ideas! Just goes to show how important "togetherness" is in K. I'm not looking forward to the possibility of having to do this again next year.
