We just finished our first week of school and we had people walking through our rooms numerous times on a daily basis observing/critiquing/commenting/coaching from day one! These people included the principal and asst. principal, reading coaches, and people from the district office. We are working so hard to establish rules, procedures, routines, and to create a class community the first couple of weeks that it just really feels intrusive and unnecessary for so many eyes to be on us the first week of school!

It's one thing to come in an greet the kids and wish you all a great year, but the part that got me was the critiquing and coaching the first week as if you aren't a professional and nor know what you are even doing the first week of school. Sorry you've had to deal with this week one.

We start tomorrow (with kids) and have already been told we will have 3 district people coming in throughout the day (besides the coaches, etc). Let me establish my routines and management for at least a day!

That is rough. Sorry its happening. Hopefully its only for the first week.

It could be worse. My husbands job records every key stroke and every word they utter to make sure they are doing everthing by the book. They keep the recordings of conversations for months so they can refer back to them. They have a person on staff that listens to the tapes to make sure that all verabage is correct. He works for the federal goverment.

Wow. I can't even imagine that happening. That's terribly intrusive at this point in the school year!

Your P and AP I could see. "Walk-Throughs" are the latest bandwagon and they should be in classrooms really see what teachers do.

However, I do have problems with reading coaches and literacy leaders (not here on this board so don't take offense) partaking in this. But that is just my opinion.

I once interviewed for a job at a daycare where their were video cameras in every room that broadcast directly into the director's office and another where there was a webcam that parents could access online.

Of course, I didn't take either job. But seriously.
