MrsJ posted a message where she stated she had worked on RW plans for her district, but was a new member and couldn't post. She sent me a copy and asked if I would attach them for her. I can't find the thread with the original post but here are the plans she made. THANKS MRSJ!

I just found the original thread where MrsJ posted her info:

I'm happy with the positive feedback from the RW curriculums. It feels great to be able to help some of you, because I've gotten sooo many wonderful ideas from this site. You're a terrific group- glad I found you! And I've been spreading the word to my co-workers, too, so the group keeps on growing. Keep up the good work, teachers!! Have a great weekend!

Combow and Buzzeeteach,
One of the great intermediate books for RW is Stephanie Harvey and Anne Goudvis' book- Strategies that Work.

Another good one is Comprehension through Conversation- can be applied to all grade levels. That one is by Maria Nichols.

Teacher College Binder
Old 05-22-2008, 05:23 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #29

We got the binders from our Summer Institute training with Teachers' College of Columbia University. I don't know if you can get it unless you also go to the training. Sorry- that's not much help! We used the binder and pulled out all the mini-lessons, and then supplemented with the other resources listed. The binder is mainly in narrative form, so what we did was make it into the "teacher friendly" format I posted.

star books
Old 05-22-2008, 05:30 PM

Clip to ScrapBook #30

The star books are also referred to as the "Old Favorites." I think I included a list with the thought that, if they are listed in the curriculum, the district would have to provide them for the teachers. We asked our trainer why they were called star books, and she said one of the teachers liked them so much that she put stars on them! Off the top of my head, two of them are "The Little Red Hen" and "Caps for Sale." These are the books that have a rich story line, that you do repeated readings of until the kids are able to "read" them during reading workshop (of course the text is too difficult, they retell the story using the pictures at the beginning of the year.) I don't have the curriculum in front of me, but check out the "blurbs" at the beginning of the first few units, and I'm sure you'll find them listed in one of those paragraphs. You can use any of your favorites with strong characters and storylines that you can get 5 copies of to put into their "table baskets" for reading workshop. Hope this was helpful!
