Looming strike - L.A.

The upcoming strike is really weighing heavily on me. Every day there is some new injunction by the district to prevent the strike. Things are changing daily, and now we are not sure what day we are going out.

Has anyone else been in this situation? How are my fellow L.A. teachers holding up?

I was just on strike . It can move fast with both sides switching things up. Remember there are often “strike moves” like in a playbook that both sides pull from. It’s a roller coaster ride where you really have to put your faith in your union team. They are in the “front lines” so to speak. The hardest thing for most was not being able to know all the little details. Those who kept up their faith in those fighting for them were a lot less stressed.

I almost wish we had gone back to school last week because I was really unable to enjoy my family or relax over much of the break. The tactics of the district really have made me unhappy to work for them. Our union is stronger than ever and the support from the parents have been insightful that the time and energy we have put forth is shining through.

Two of my favorite quotes that help me through hard times:

Quote:
Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end.
Quote:
Your hardest times often lead to the greatest moments of your life. Keep the faith. It will be worth it in the end.
Strikes are hard. It is hard to put your future in the hands of the negotiating committee, but sometimes you have to stand up for yourself.
