The "meanest" 4th grade teacher, ME, had the "meanest" 5th grade teacher come into her classroom and set the record straight as to what was certainly expected in 5th grade next year. We did not pre-discuss what was to be addressed---WOW! It was fantastic! The students certainly sat up and listened...had to, she demanded it! I would suggest this if you are having any problems with:
not listening
not following directions
not trying/whinning
"forgetting" everything that was taught during the year
laziness
oh, the list goes on and on!!!

I love that. I have been the "meanest" teacher in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade. It's the highest of all compliments! Glad she set your kids straight and supported you.

That's great! Students (and staff) are more likely to succeed when teachers are on the same page. Hallelujah!

I was considered the meanest 5th grade teacher. My students knew what was expected of them and they lived up to it.

I totally lost it one day and unloaded on my fifth grade class about their lack of effort and responsibility. I was unaware that my door was open as well as the one on the third grade room across the hall. That teacher told me her entire class sat there, bugged eyed, holding their breaths and listened to every bit of my rant. When I stopped, she very quietly told them that was why she was having them work hard and be responsible in her room (I was a bit embarrassed when she shared, but they all felt my frustration!)
