Hi everyone!!! I have an interview on Wednesday for 4th grade and am looking to find out what behavior systems you use in your classrooms. I know there will be questions about classroom management, but I've only taught Kindergarten, so I wanted to see if the upper grade levels use any different methods. In Kindergarten, I used the schoolwide traffic light and filled out behavior charts every day to go home. I also had a paint pallete with paint on it (my theme was Vincent van Gogh) and when the tables got all the way to 5 everyone at the table got to pick a prize from the prize box. What systems do you use in fourth grade? Thanks for all the advice in advance!!

I use a classroom economy. It is highly (I'd say 98%) effective. I don't think it matters what system you use, as long as it is effective. You might want to try a few at a time because some systems don't work with certain kids while others do.

Several of our new teachers use the clip chart and I really like it. I plan on usign it next year.

I really like the clip chart but I'm having a little trouble right now because they're bored with the rewards they get. I'm having a class meeting tomorrow to brainstorm some new ideas.

I love this so much! I read the ebook and it was such a quick and easy read. Thank you so much for sending me the link to it! I used the stoplight chart with my students in Kindergarten, but just like the pocket chart, it only focused on negative behavior and none on positive. Just asking my students to move their clip would send some of them to tears. I love the focus on the positive actions and behavior. I definitely want to implement this when I get back into the classroom. Thanks so much again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a little puzzled why a behavior management system is called an "economy." How does rewarding good behavior model any type of economy? Maybe it's just a euphemism for rewards system.
