I would love to find teachers this year that would be willing to skype with my 4th grade classroom. I would love a variety of places in California, throughout the United States, and in other countries. We could do mystery skype calls to work on geography, we could talk about regions of California, compare literature (myths), etc. Let me know if you are interested!
You can count my classroom in! I have been looking for the exact same thing I also have a secured online classroom that they can do projects together simultaniously. I am in Ohio. I should have about 25 kids. Just let me know.
I would love to participate! I've used Skype with my class in the past to speak with an author and the students love it. I'm in North Miami, Florida. Anyone else interested in Skyping with me too?
I would love to participate, but hope you will take on a skype newbie- never used it before!
We are a Ca bay area school-we study 4 regions so would love to bring that into the mix.
I would love to participate too but will need to find out a few thing first.... like if I can get skype on our school computers (not restricted) and speak with my principal to find out if there are any legalities to using skype in my classroom.
I am in Maryland (30 mins from DC)
I would love to participate! I am actually going to a conference in July and taking a class on Skype. My school is located in Alabama near the Mobile Bay! Let me know if there is room for us!
I teach 4th in very northern California. I too have been looking for Skype partners. We have a class set of iPads, and I would love to have them speak with classrooms in different regions.
I would love to but need to figure out a few logistics first. We're in MA just north of Boston. I'll have 2 social studies classes since me and my teaching partner switch for science and social studies. This sounds great!
I'm excited to see all the responses. I am researching still the how to (since I have never done this with my class before) and how to connect it with the curriculum. I came across this resource today that I thought would be helpful to everyone.
This sounds like a very interesting project. I am in central florida. It would be great for geography skills for them to play 20 questions to figure out where each class is located.
I am interested, but have never done it before. I tried with our pen pals this past year and found out our school's wireless blocked it. I was assured that it was being fixed over the summer.
I'd love to find out how the skyping would work, especially when so many are interested. We are in the Tidewater region of Virginia and take field trips to Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg. We study the Powhatan indians, Chesapeake Bay watershed (yearlong study), and more.
I did this last year with about 5 classroom teachers from around the U.S. and one in Canada. It was great, the kids learned a lot and absolutely loved doing it. If anyone of you would like to join or group or have questions on the format we used you can contact me at mkittelson5#yahoo.com or PM me. The other participants want to do it again this year, but it would be ideal to have about 20 or more total classrooms participating during the year to ensure that each class has another class to Skype with and then just rotate through the group. I am in southern Minnesota. Contact me if interested! Thanks and enjoy the rest of your summers!
