I've done frogs, ladybugs, monkeys and space. I'm new to 1st grade (after being in Pre-K for 4 years) and I'd like to have a brand new theme as well! Ideas?
My first post! I think I am doing a Hollywood/Rockstar theme. Found lotsof ideas on pinterest, so maybe. Last year I had a camping theme, the year before a Beach theme.
Our schoolwide theme is SEAS. We can do ocean, sailing, the beach or pirates. I am doing my room in black, white, and red and using ships and pirates. I am hanging ship flags in black, white, and red prints and I have little ships with their names for the door and a large nautical wheel.
I have finally done it!!! I am getting rid of my jungle/monkey/safari theme after 7yrs. Needless to say I have a lot of stuff!! I will now have a western theme!!! Yee-Haw!!!
it up this year - I'll be using colors like a couple of the previous posters - lime green, orange, Dark red and sky blue. Then I'll use penannt banners and dots with those colors. I will probably work some owls in too, because I can't resist!
doing black and white with either hot pink accents or bright or flourescent yellow. Depends on what I can find in hot pink. If I do the yellow accents I will add bees. I found at the teacher store yesterday black and white border with scrolls and flowers etc. Both sides of the border are scalloped. I thought it was neat.
more of a color scheme. Very light yellow walls, my bulletin board paper is sky blue on all 3.5 bulletin boards. The borders are done in dots and or circles in bright colors. They seem to work well together.
The room is less distracting without my frogs, trains, etc.
I teach first grade and I tell my students that reading is feeding their brains. So this year I decided to have a grocery store theme. It will go well with Daily 5 and CAFE. My sweet hubby has made me a grocery store for my reading nook. It can double as a puppet theater. I'll use cloth grocery bags for my students to keep their books in.
I have a forest theme. My boards all have the pine boughs border. Pine trees are used too. My tables are named after animals in the forest. I find the browns and greens are a soothing color.
I did my teacher toolbox in some really great colors so I thought about doing a color/pattern theme. But then I have all those really cute DJ Inkers bear stuff and I really hate to see it go to waste so I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
I have bright colors with the white zebra borders.. but my welcome door is Dr. Suess, but I might change it to owls because I have seen so many cute ideas with them!!!
It is a huge, vague theme! Does anyone have any ideas? I have thought of the Darth Vader, VW boy who had heart surgery recently. He had a great little saying about following ones dream, but I don't know things that could go with it that fit a room.
I am excited to try a Dr. Seuss theme this year. There are so many possibilities to spread it out over several months instead of just a week or two. Thinking about highlighting a different Seuss book each month.
OWLS. I use the letters as names for my guided reading groups. I used this theme for the first time this past year and some of my students gifted me owl trinkets all year. And now I can find owls everywhere!
I keep going back and forth between the two themes! They are both so cute! I see boys and girls enjoying the colorful monsters but I am so attracted to the colorful owls!
I'm not planning on filling the entire room with the theme I choose though~ I would like to incorporate a color theme along with it!
I have a dark green floor in my room, so I feel I have to work around that! (A forest theme would probably work well...) Decisions, decisions!
I am doing a western theme this year too. What decorating ideas are you using? I have bought several items from Oriental Trading (red bandana lanterns to hang from the ceiling on clips), plus I have bought a bulletin board set from Carson Dellosa. My helpers board will be "Helping Hands". I have made work gloves for the jobs, then I will use cut outs of boots for the kids' names. I am still deciding on what to do for my classroom door and bulletin boards. I bought the teacherclubhouse calendar stuff too.
My grade level does a hallway theme each year and some of us carry it over to the classroom. Last year we did Wizard of Oz. We are working on a detective/I Spy theme. Any suggestions are welcome.
This is the first time I'm going with a theme and I chose The Happy Honeybee collection from Schoolgirl Style. Colors are black/white polka dot, yellow, grey. I can't wait to set it up.
With green and pink and brown being accent colors. ive done owls for the past 2 years now, and they are popular right now so there are lots of possibilities! I just got two owl ceramic jars and an owl mat frm target today!
I used the bugs in Kindergarten. They are so cute. I found a large sunflower cutout and attached velcro to different parts of the flower. Then I attaced a bug for each child and used the display as a behavior system.
i am an 8th grade teacher, and our theme this year is outerspace. my sister is a K-5 teacher and she is doing owls...owls are everywhere right now. in target's dollar spot, you can find a while bunch of things
I did a travel theme last year which was super cute. We had an "explorer of the week" for the star/special person of the week. The library was the "Rest Stop." It was very handy having maps and travel related things everywhere and my kids LOVED being called Explorers.
This year I am doing a Chef theme which I am pretty excited about as well. I've found a few ideas on Pinterest too. The rules are going to be posted on a giant recipe card that I made, the library is the Reading Cafe (made a overhang out of fabric so it looks like a restaurant), the job board (for class jobs) is matted on an apron and the jobs are all people in a restaurant themed (the host, manager, ect. . .). It'll be cute.
I am all about emphasizing reading so we are the bookworms.I have my reading corner set up as Bookworm's treehouse with a fake tree and one of my bookcases is shaped like a house. I have several stuffed worms I got from oriental trading several years ago. I have nametags and desktags with bookworms plus bookmarks.
beach, jungle, western, and sports. The previous themes were school mandated. This year is circus/carnival. I honestly couldn't find enough to take it across the room, so went with Dots on Turquoise just 'cause I loved it. Carnival theme only on hallway bb.
