Interactive Notebook for 1st grade!

I was wondering if anyone is using interactive notebook with first grade. I used it with second and third graders and they absolutely loved their 'personal' notebooks. This year, I'm moving to first grade, so I don't have any clue as to how this idea will work out with young kids. Is interactive notebook appropriate for first grade? How do you implement it?

It's basically an interactive notebook with left side for teachers and right side for students to apply what they have learned. What I did with my students was any handout that they received from me would go on the left side and the follow up activity would go on the right side. The whole notebook became a portfolio to show to parents at the end of the term. With first graders though, I wonder if the process of cutting and pasting them onto a notebook is easy or not.
