If a student masters a standard are they outstanding or satisfactory? We don't use the traditional ABCD grades, we use O, S, NI, U. In your above example I would say knowing 5 of the states is satisfactory, but more than that would be outstanding. That can be harder to do with the traditional grades because "C" is consider average but S for satisfactory covers a wider range. Maybe next year you could do a scale and let parents know ahead of time that knowing 1-5 states = C. 6-9 states = B and 10 or more would be an A.
