I have a critter question.

Could a raccoon open a screen door?

For years I had two glass storm doors on my porch. I recently did remodeling, and I have a screen door now. It fits well, and actually has to be lifted just slightly to open since it scrapes a high spot on the concrete.

Ths morning, the door was open. I closed it and went to work. This evening when I got home, it was one again. There is no damage to the screen. The dog treat box (plastic) doesn't seem to be bothered. The goldfish are fine. Nothing bothered.

There are a few muddy paw prints on the patio outside, but nothing inside the porch. Too big for a squirrel. Too small for the dog. Not shaped right for a dog or cat either.

I do live in the boonies. I've never seen a raccoon, but I'm sure they are around. I get cats, dogs, and squirrels mostly. Sometimes there is a skunk, opossum, or deer.

Think I might have a raccoon?

I latched the screen door tonight.

Yes they can. I lived in a house with a screened in back porch. The racooons opened the screen door and got into the trash can that we kept on the porch.

Raccoons are very strong and very smart.

You might want to look for crazy neighbor sized footprints.

Smart little creatures! I've had them in my house twice! Seriously. Muddy footprints, trash strewn around, stuff pulled off the counter.

They climbed through our kitchen window---tore the screen and had to have lifted the window slightly! Pretty freaky.

So, yes. I believe they could have gotten in.

Maybe one of my redneck neighbors can set a trap for me, then take it back to the woods somewhere else.

raccoons are definately capable of that! my aunt heard pounding on her roof- she called an exterminater, and the found a raccoon got into her attic through her chiminey! They are pretty good at getting where they want to! keep your doors latched close, otherwise you may have some more visitors!

Raccoons are always getting into our screened porch! If anything is left out, they will get into it. They found a bag of birdseed once and dumped it all over. I'll never forget when my boys heard all this ruckous (sp?) at about 2:00 a.m. Looked out and there were two raccoons in the POOL fighting!!
