My school system (NC) has a two hour early release for tomorrow. But it's just for rain, maybe freezing rain that's suppose to start early afternoon into the evening.

Every time I listen to a weather report it changes. They really don't know what's going to happen tomorrow.

I just laugh at the already treated roads. The good thing though is I get to start my weekend early, and I won't have to make this day up.

Your school has already called for an early release for freezing rain that may not even happen? I'm so surprised by that. We'd have a ton of parents here upset if our district did something like that, but I'd love knowing about the extra time in advance.

Yes,many of the counties in NC have decided to let parents know ahead of time they will have an early release. You have to understand, we don't have the equipment and 8 years ago there was chaos when schools let out early, but after the mess started. People were stuck on roads for 8 hours. School buses returned to schools with children and spent the night! It was insane. NC is not able to handle much bad weather.

My favorite NC winter story: in 1999 my DH moved to NC in Feb. I stayed in NJ with the kids. One day my DH called laughing hysterically. There was a chance of snow they called off school!

We got the call about an hour ago for an early dismissal day, too!

We just got called too - 11:30 dismissal. Yay!

I remember the day that teachnkids referred to. I didn't have much trouble that time, but I remember an even worse ice storm back in 2002. It took me 2.5 hours to get home, and I only live 10 miles from school! We were out of school for almost a week, and some families still didn't have power when we did go back.

Here's hoping that tomorrow's "wintery mix" is nothing like that!

We've got a 3 hr early release tomorrow. I am so glad they decided to go ahead and call it. This should help limit the number of kids not picked up on time tomorrow. Usually, our district waits until the last minute to cancel or release early.

JEALOUS!!! I also wanna have an extended weekend! YOur all sooooo lucky! we havent had any school closings due to weather this year!!! we used to have 3-4 per year! I guess its GLOBAL WARMING!!

We got to school and instead of being released at noon, they upped it to 10:30! We got counted for going, so no make-up on a Saturday. The roads are icy but little to no accumulation.
