Schools on Lockdown

Not my school, but the elementary, middle, and high school by my house are on lockdown due to gunman on the loose. My son attends the high school. Streets are closed off near my house.

I know teachers and students at all three schools. My kids attended all at one time or another, and I've volunteered there as well. Having been in lockdown myself, I am so sympathetic to those teachers keeping the kids calm and focused.

Good thoughts and prayers that this ends peaceably and well!

First grade

The nice thing about teaching first grade is that when this has happened, they think it is just a drill and go on as if nothing has happened. Thankfully, it has only happened once in our area.
I hope things are peacefully solved.

Latest report

Is that the lockdown has been lifted but the school day hasn't yet returned to normal. The news says the middle school student who claimed to see the gunman has recanted his story.

So, how many thousands of people have been affected by this today???? Those three schools have around 4,000 students, plus there are dozens of police and SWAT guys out.

I glad, though, if it was just a made up story instead of a real gunman.

We've had several too over the years. It always freaks me out when a helicopter is hovering overhead and we're on a lockdown!

If this is the one I think you are talking about, this is pretty close to me. I did not hear about the elementary school. According to one news station, it ended up being a prank by two middle school boys. They even went as far as describing the guy-black with a mohawk. Incredible in this day and age that they would think something like that would be funny.

Student will be charged

Latest is that the student will be charged and perhaps the parents will be billed for the cost. There was a bomb scare at another local high school a while back and that cost $100,000, or so I heard.

I do hope they crack down on this student. Thousands of people were inconvenienced today and our police force was busy for several hours, leaving everything else.

Really, really dumb.
