Hi,
I am going to be teaching 6-8 SS next year. I have taught 6-8 Reading for the last 6 years, I am looking for any advice on using the Common Core or 3C's in SS curriculum. We are a 1:1 school, any technology advice would be great as well. What is everyone teaching in grades 6-8, I am also in Iowa. Thank you.

I also teach middle school Social Studies. I teach Ancient History, Medieval History, and U.S. History. I am also expected to integrate technology, so perhaps we can exchange ideas. I think your background teaching Readng will be very helpful, as I find that teaching Social Studies requires a good understanding of how to help students find information in text, infer from that information, and use that information to support their answers, whether speaking or in writing. Feel free to PM me.

Do you use any type of ebooks in your curriculum? We have textbooks that I am thinking about using as a guide, but would like something more.

I teach 6th grade social studies. In NY 6th grade is Eastern Hemisphere: prehistory, river civilizations and classical civilizations. 7th and 8th are American History. We have a McGraw Hill textbook, but I don't like it. Our 7th grade teachers use History Alive.

I'd highly recommend checking out historytech.wordpress.com. They guy who runs it is deeply into common core and technology. Lots of great ideas and discussions happen there.

If you want more practical stuff (like specific lessons) you can try my site at mrroughton.com and click on common core.
