Lip balms with menthol, camphor, phenol and the like (this includes chapstick and carmex) generally make dry lips worse in the long run. Try using a lip product with vitamin e oil. I use this stuff:
And yes, masking all day is causing me some skin issues. I typically start having dry lip issues at this time of year when the furnace starts kicking in and the air in my house becomes dry but it is worse this year. And, I've started carrying skin care wipes to clean under my mask at noon. It helps prevent rashes/pimples that can come from wearing a mask all day.
I developed an allergy to lanolin a few years ago and figured out it is in most lip products/ I had the same symptoms you’re experiencing. I stopped using lip products completely and switched to only Vaseline. I know you say you hate it, but it might be worth a try.
My husband works in a warehouse - without effective a/c - sometimes none. Around May he got an infection on his lips from wearing a mask, it started like that. He eventually did one of those text a doctor things and got a prescription that cleared it right up.
I have been using a lot of face spray. I spray my face throughout the day. Its fabulous and feels amazing.
I use a variety of sprays. I spray my face at school, in my car and at recess breaks. I use Olay mist, Wet n Wild photofocus coconut primer water and Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Rosewater. It makes a big difference on skin and my skin is awesome now!
And last thing, make sure your mask are staying clean and dry. I change mine a couple of times throughout the day. It’s especially important if you get hot and sweaty for any reason.
The other thing you might want to consider is if a different kind of mask would feel better. These nice or soft, like a T-shirt. They are very comfortable against my skin. They were recommended to me by a friend who is a microbiologist. This link is for Amazon, but they’re also sold in Walmart. Yup! Those t-shirt material masks are my favorite. I get mine from Curvy Sense, I think?
I had to at the last line. Teaching Pre-K is a hot and sweaty job, with or without a mask on!
