Which is the better book?

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I'm trying to decide whether to use Frindle (Andrew Clements) or Report to the Principal's Office (Jerry Spinelli) with my middle level language arts class. I want to use it as a shared reading (students will have their own copies) and teach the kids how to use an interactive notebook or reading response journal while focusing on the realistic fiction genre and story elements. We did away with our basal this year, and I have never used either of these books before. I have done literature circles, but the shared reading is to be done whole group. I've never used interactive notebooks either, but did buy a template from Teachers Pay Teachers to try. In fact, I've only taught math and social studies for the past several years, so I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed! Any advice or suggestions for the better book and possible ways to use them for shared reading would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I've read Frindle with my classes over the last two years. The kids always like it and it's not too tough. There's also lots of stuff on the web for it as well.
Sorry, I haven't read the other book to offer an opinion.

I haven't read the other one but I've never had a student not like Frindle.

Like the PP said, there are lots of resources online for it. It's also short and easy to teach, so it's a good one for *you* to get your feet wet too.

Thanks for your input! I was kind of leaning towards Frindle and did see a lot online. I am just that kind of person who has to explore all options before making a decision. Wastes a lot of time and drives me nuts!
