Our district has decided that our first day will be a two and half hour day. I will not get my class list until after this half day. The problem arises when you have 85 students to keep busy for 2 plus hours. Any ideas or suggestions of what has worked for you?

Whenever I have a half day I split my normal curriculum and do half one day and the second half on day two. I am assuming that you won't have any specialists yet so you won't have to worry about that. I also like to do some team building the first week, along with interviews on what the students like to read, what subjects they feel good about, and how they best like to learn. Hence, I would probably start off with procedures, some academics (find out where your kids are at), and then finish with team building, repeat day two.

85 students with 4 teachers to keep busy for 2 and 1/2 hours. We will not find out homerooms until the following week.
