I'm considering taking Scholastic Book orders.

Does anyone have any input on this? I know that parents can order online, but for those that don't take advantage of this ~ do you have to deal with checks or make change when you get cash?

Thanks in advance for your input! I appreciate it! pg

I have a few parents who order online but I still have some that prefer to send in a check or money. In my letter (I always send a letter along with the catalog) I tell them that I'll accept checks made out to Scholastic or exact change. Scholastic has made it easier for the parents to send in cash because every item is an even dollar ($1.00, $3.00, $10.00, etc.).

I also mention in the letter that our classroom receives a free book when a family orders online. I think that encourages more families to give online purchasing a try.

Doing book orders is an excellent job for a trusted parent. All you have to do is pass out and collect the orders and pass them on. I just give the parent my log in info for Scholastic and they take care of the rest!

Checks are written to Scholastic and mailed in.

I love doing book orders. It's a great way for me to get free books for my class and encourage reading at the same time. I started doing online ordering last year. That was the best thing I ever did with those. I still have some parents who prefer to write checks, but I just put those in an envelope and mail them in. If you've never done them before don't worry, it's a piece of cake!

I ask them to send checks but not all of them do. If they don't, I am always ordering something anyways (at least the $1 book of the month) so I just add their amount to my total & keep their cash & mail a check. Not many of my parents if any order online. It isn't a pain at all keeping up with the money. It's very easy to put your order in online. Very very worth it!

we are not allowed to accept checks from students if it is under a certain amount, and when we do, they have to be made out to our school. As far as the change from cash, we have to turn it in to the bookkeeper, and she makes change.

I have been using Scholastic for years and have added lots to my classroom library through them, along with many other kinds of resources. It is definitely worth the time! My parents do not order online and I don't have any problems getting checks made out to Scholastic to pay for their purchases. I would encourage you to give it a try!

I've been able to get lots of great books by doing Scholastic orders. I use online and accept checks made out to Scholastic. If they bring cash, I just keep the cash and make out a check to Scholastic, as a PP said.
