Dog Pound?

My DD talked me into doing a dog theme. Now I am thinking some parents will get upset if I call us the Dog Pound. I think it is cute, but do not want to upset anybody. Any thoughts?

You could work around puppies and pets, but I wouldn't call it the dog pound. I think it us cute, but I wouldn't want to have to explain the reasoning behind it to parents or my principal. It is easy enough to offend parents sometimes, that I try not to do anything that seems like it would offend anyone.

I'd call us the Dog House (because we always seem to be in it!) but that would probably cause problems too!

A "Spot" For Everyone

Mary Engelbreit has a collection that used to be called that, now it seems to be "Playful Pups"
http://shop.maryengelbreit.com/categ...room-2/page/2/

I think it would be cute (if you aren't limited by fire issues), to put a "doghouse" around your classroom door, with your door as the door to the doghouse, and put "A Spot For Everyone" and maybe a giant dog on the wall beside the door, like it's sitting there waiting...

I live in Ohio and we seem to have A-LOT of dog pounds in some of the schools I have been in. Some are Cleveland Brown's themes and others are based around pound puppies kinda stuff! All of the teachers I have seen have done a great job with it and they can't change their theme because kids look forward to being on of their dogs!

Dog Park

I called mine the Dog Park and on my welcome board I wrote, Welcome to the Dog Park! I always had parents smile as they walked by. You could say something about learning is fun or a place to play while we learn...
I have changed my theme from dogs to Dr. Seuss this year. While I have found tons of Dr. Seuss, I have found tons of cute dog things too. I have debated buying them for when I go back because I just love dogs!

I like the "Dog Park" idea.

Don't forget you can use Scooby, Clifford, Mudge and lots of other dog characters to sprinkle throughout your theme. The kids will love it.

I personally would also add some cool cats, birds and other pets too.

Calendars have great pictures you can use for centers and decorations.

You could use Ezra Jack Keats' book Pet Show as a literature tie in for your theme.

Have fun!

I agree--I would stay away from Dog Pound. The other listers gave you great ideas that i cannot add any more to!
