Ideas for 7th grade

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hi, I will be teaching 7th grade (all subjects) next school year! It is my first teaching job and I am thrilled.

I was wondering if a theme is necessary or is it too childish? If not, any suggestions?

Thanks and have a great day!

I would just go with a color scheme (two or three colors at most), and try to stick to it whenever possible. It can be festive but streamlined at the same time.

congrats on the job!

Very exciting! 7th grade will be really exciting!

I do not think that a theme is too childish at all. I was actually thinking the other day about the middle school & high school in our district. VERY FEW of the classrooms have any decoration at all....it makes me sad b/c students at that age still need to be engaged, you know?

I agree that going with a color scheme would be good! I have animal print in my room, that would be perfect for that age group! You could do all neon colors too!

I am excited to see what you do! Good Luck!!!

I don't think a theme is too childish at all! My dd's 6th grade teacher had a jungle theme and the kids got a kick out of the monkeys (plastic blow-up type) hanging from the ceiling.

An easy theme for that age group would be sports. You know there are plenty who can relate to that! Even if kids don't play sports, they would probably like it. You can even tie-in cheerleading and/or dance to get more of a variety.

I don't know about your school, but at my school the big thing is kids wearing t-shirts that have Muppets characters on them in 7th grade. I was thinking about doing something with that next year. I teach math, so cookie monster and The Count would be cool. Although, next year, I have no idea what the heck I'll be teaching, so I can't actually come up with a theme or anything yet. I know for sure that I will no longer be at my school (Thank God!). Maybe some sort of skateboard theme? I'm not a big theme person. I just like colors. Although, I like to go with an Asian feel.
