When making a bulletin board can there be such thing as too cluttered? Can the bright colors or themes distract the student? Any suggestions on certain colors to use or how to keep it neat?

All of the boards in my room are covered in black paper with black designed borders. I keep everything neat by keeping things in rows and in primary colors. Also, I don't have a lot of "extra stuff " on my boards - just keep it to what the kiddos need to use and see. I often change out the info that they see depending on what we are learning. Science and SS of course, but also for ELA and math.

So don't have yellow EVERYWHERE in your room, or you might as well feed them sugar all day long I like the 'black background use' comment above. I have a camping theme so my colors are greens and blues to stay with nature. But my largest wall (for writing) has a black background. I am 2nd grade and I have seen upper grades have every corner covered (YIKES!) Then there's the 6th grade math guy - a minimalist...so it's a balance. And remember...you have to live with it all day and look at it too.

I think using cohesive color schemes is the key to having a well put together looking room without lots of visual clutter.
