Math Anchor charts posted during assesments

Do you cover up your math anchor charts (for example, posters that may show an enlarged ruler with the lengths marked or a sample of how to compare fractions) during your unit tests, district wide assessments, or state assessments? Is it considered cheating?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Two years ago I gave a math test over a geometry unit where 19 of the 20 questions could be answered from posters on the wall. 4 of my 12 students students still managed to fail it.

I have several posters up- all of them are steps to work with fractions/decimals. Each student created an identical chart and has it in their math folder. I do not consider being intelligent enough to use tools as cheating. I am not required to cover them up, so I do not.

We are required to cover up any resources that hung up for our state tests. We don't have to do anything for our district tests.

For state assessments everything comes down off the walls. We take grade level assessments in the computer lab where there are no anchor charts.

We cover during state tests, but that's all. I sometimes wonder how much they're used.
