Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hello,

I am planning a week long integrated unit on Civil Rights for my second graders (student teaching). I would like to make this very hands-on, personal and reflective. I want to stay clear of the textbooks and worksheets. I was thinking maybe some sort of learning center but not sure how I would set this up. Do you have any ideas?

When I taught second, we did a unit. I used lots of great read alouds . We had them write about their dreams (find a dream/speech bubble) to display in the hall. We also had them make doves-I think there was a template and then they glued cotton balls on it. We hung those from the ceiling. Video clips are very effective for them to really see -Martin Luther King especially.

This looks good:

Thank You. The link was helpful. I think what I could do is have students learn about the influential people during that time and have them find character traits, the problem they faced, etc.
