Hello All,
I am moving from first grade to teach 6th ,7th ,8th reading. I was wondering if there is anything I should order for the students to read. For example, I would like the material to have short articles like
Scholastic News. What do you use in your classroom? Thanks for the help.

In the past, I have used Time for Kids. It has current events, usually a graph or chart and you can download a 10 question multiple choice quiz if you want to. It was a good way to incorporate informational text and practice (the dreaded) test taking strategies with current events.

I use Junior Scholastic magazines; the topics are timely and relevant to their age group and the kids like them. I used Time for Kids when I taught younger grades, and those were good too, but I think are geared more towards 5-6 than 7-8.

I'd like to throw one more at you... Have you looked into Scholastic Scope? It is for grades 6-12, and covers a gamut of reading/language arts skills. Plus, most of the feature stories have links to related videos to get them making connections. I've used it for a couple of years now and love it.
