Since the district is closing our small k-4 school and I'm 1-6 qualified, I found out today that I will be teaching 3 classes of 5th and 3 classes of 6th. This will be new and different for me. If anyone has suggestions or advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If you haven't tried it yet, readworks.org is free and has enough texts with Q&A to get you through most of the year.

I second Read Works! I love it! I wonder how long it will be free. We don't have many materials either but there are so many things available online now. I think once you are in a routine it will flow. I think you could even plan some of the same thing for each grade just scaffold it up or down. Good luck.

Is my newest obsession! It has TONS of grammar practice and quizzes. When students sign up, they also fill out a survey for their interests and it gives them questions/statements that they enjoy. For example, Justin Bieber went to the concert! Kids love it!

my hero! I will have a set of chromebooks for my classroom. This will be an excellent bell ringer for them to come in and get started on. No grading for me and still be able to get grades! Awesome. Thank you so much.

That's exactly how I use it! We are 1:1 w/ iPads as well! They get so in to it, so I created a "blue" and "green" club to encourage participation at home. When they click the "progress" tab at the top, all of the categories range from red to blue giving kids an great visual for what they need to work on. They have "assignments" each day which take about 10 minutes and quiz on Friday! I sure hope it's always free!
