Solar Eclipse Day?

Clip to ScrapBook #1

A parent asked if their child could take off the afternoon of the eclipse. Is your school going to do anything special or make those accommodations?

We are in the path of totality. A large school district near us has cancelled school for the day. Our district is still mulling it over.

We are in the direct path for the eclipse. We will have 100% coverage. All schools in our area are out for the entire day. Officials are expecting 1 million people to come into the area just for the eclipse. They are also encouraging locals to just stay home and enjoy the eclipse from home.

We are in the path of totality too. As far as I know we are in as a regular day. I wish school would cancel as we are expecting an influx of visitors to the area and the event will not be concluded by the time we dismiss for the day. I think it will be a transportation nightmare! I also have some anxiety about the students following directions about eye safety.

We're seeing 99% totality...and it's our 3rd day of school.

We bought glasses for the kids...and it will be during our lunch & recess time. So I think we're just going to do picnic lunch and stay out a bit longer from recess.

I'm debating inviting parents to join us...but we won't have enough glasses for them.

We are in the mid 90% range. I'm not sure exactly what we have planned, though. Peak coverage is around 2:30 in the afternoon, so I can see us taking the kids outside to watch.

We are in the path of 100% and are expecting millions as well, so they say. We have a regular day with planned activities. Many schools are closed yet ours did not. The district purchased glasses for all students. One question I have.... who is liable when/if that one student decides to take of their special glasses?

It will be the 3rd day of school. We have a county task force ....911 etc as they are expecting emergencies to be rerouted due to traffic conditions. Some smaller county departments will be closed... parks rec dept.... municipal court building.... local city halls... Why will we be in school if things will really be as bad as predicted?

Our district is pushing back dismissal time from 2:30 to 3:30. This will allow students to safely view from school on that day.

It's our first day of school. I did an entire day of training on hands on activities. I'm conflicted because I'd like to dedicate an entire day to it (as one of the middle schools is doing), but it's the first freaking day. I think I'm going to settle for just going out and watching.

I may gather boxes and have the kids work in groups of 3 to create boxes to look at it.

Aug 21 is a workday here, so the kids won't be back to school yet. I haven't heard anything else about it here. We are in central/eastern NC so the path is in the opposite side of the state.

First day for teachers

We will view a partial eclipse. It's a PD day for teachers. First day back of the year. I have already set reminders on my phone. I am stepping out of my training to watch it. I'm sure others will also.

Our superintendent has purchased glasses for every student and staff member. We have been instructed to do age appropriate activities to instruct students about the eclipse.

We are in the totality path but won't be in school. Our city has a lot of activities planned and the public library is doing a ton of eclipse stuff for the kids.

The city is one of the premier places to witness the eclipse so I will be staying t home to avoid all the visitors that day.

School will not be in session yet here. We are in the path of totality and they are saying it is going to be crazy here. Our small town of 1000 may be at 20,000 they say. I say craziness haha. But I have my glasses ready haha.

It's our first full day back. We are getting the kids special glasses to go outside and see it. I sure hope that the kids aren't being silly and go taking the glasses off. I tried looking through them and couldn't see anything with the glasses on though.. it was like looking at black paper.

i knew we weren't in the main path, but the article i just read said we are at 99.55%--wheeeee!

i think it is crazy how we know exactly where and when it will occur!

the libraries in our area are giving away glasses--starting tomorrow--good thing i did some research tonight!

on the 21st, teachers are in session, but kids aren't (they start the next day). but we do have our Meet-n-Greet. Thankfully that's from 2-3 so will happen after the eclipse.

We are in 98% totality around dismissal. Our district has extended the school day for one hour and suggested that we keep the students inside. No windows in our building so I doubt I will see anything! BUMMER!!

My district has bought the glasses for all staff and students. We are about 50 miles from totality but it is our 3rd day of school. We will do lots of activities outdoors. This is once in a lifetime--want them to see it (with glasses of course!)

How terrible! This is such an opportunity for the kids and teachers. I'm 54 and have only seen a partial--this one will be almost total where I live. Getting excitied

We got the 21st off. It was supposed to be a work day, with our first day being on the 22nd. But now we have the day off, work day on the 22nd, school starts the 23rd. There's a lot of concern where I'm at about the traffic, phone service, and internet. Lots of people are expected to come to our area to view the eclipse. It will be interesting to see how many and if it's anything like they expect!
