I need a do-over

I was on my way home today and was the second car stopped at a red light in the right lane of a two-lane turn lane at a busy intersection. There were two lanes of traffic to my left going straight through the light. All of a sudden I heard what sounded like a collision, but before I could even look for the wreck a red van shot by me on the left and rear-ended the SUV that was stopped in front of them. I then saw a third car with the front end smashed in roll into view. That driver was a young girl who got out looked at the front of her car, shrugged, and returned to her car. She had obviously hit the red van and propelled it into the SUV. No one exited the red van and I did not have a visual of the SUV. I looked to see if I could merge behind them but the traffic was already backed up. The light changed to my turn signal and my lane of traffic began to move. I drove past the red van and saw the driver still sitting behind the inflated air bags and the SUV had pulled to the side of the road across the intersection. I wanted to stop, but there were cars behind me and there was no way to pull over because the cars across were turning at the same time. I proceeded to drive on home which was two blocks away. We were going to vote so I made my husband drive back by the scene. They were loading the poor woman from the red van into an ambulance. I still don't know what I should have done, but I really wish I had found some way to stop!!! This missed opportunity is going to haunt me for a while!

Id phone the non emergency line and give them a witness report of what you saw. They might need that.

Hopefully the lady wasn't hurt badly. Making a witness report is a great idea.

As other PPs have suggested, make a witness report. There wasn't much you could have done about the lady in the red van, so don't let it get you down. Others obviously called in immediately, as the woman was already being loaded into the ambulance.
