Some help please- online tutoring

Good morning to all-
I have been getting unsolicited emails from various companies urging me to part-time tutor foreign students in English.
I have no knowledge of such programs, and I would like to ask your help.
Have any of you folks any experience with the online programs?
Perhaps I am too suspicious, but the stuff online seems to be pushing very hard, and that makes me wonder if it's all legit.
Many thanks for your help-
good day to all- Ed

I have no experience with it, but I have read posts in the Teacher Lounge about it. Also, a coworker told me about a friend of hers that does it. I know thatís not much help, but I do think some of them are legit, just not sure which ones.

I agree with Cat woman. I would put my question in the Lounge. You could also Google the company to see if there are any reviews.

Very good question. Like most online ads these days, some are good and some are scams. If you decide to do this, go with VIPKids. Iíve only heard good things about them.

I know someone who tutors children in China and loves it. She is currently also a classroom teacher and tutors in the morning before she heads to school. VIPKID is the name of the group she works for and is eager to share her experiences.

I applied/looked into VIPKID last summer. My feeling was it could be enjoyable if one is doing it for the satisfaction of teaching again; but that it pays very poorly.

For example, I can see how it works for a SAHM to make some extra money without having daycare costs; but probably if I want to tutor I myself would tutor privately and make it a little more financially worth while.
