randomizing student response

How do you choose your students to answer a question? I use Popsicle sticks with the students names on them. I am looking for different ways to call on them.
Thanks in advance.

I use Class Dojo for randomizing and for making groups (you can specify how many in the groups). Thatís all I use it for. Works great!

A deck of cards with names on them and after the name is called it is put back in the deck and the deck is mixed. Very quick. Student numbers on cards instead of names prevent you from having to make new deck every year.

I used popsicle sticks, but put them back into rotation as soon as child answered.

Paddle pop sticks (probably the same as popsicle sticks). Put them back in the cup after they've answered. If it's working for you, don't mess with it.

Randomize names

http://flippity.net/ works on the Google platform. DEMO. You would create a sheet for each class and save it in Google Drive. It can display as a Spinner, Single Name, or Lineup. It will also randomly divide your class into groups or teams.

About the popsicle stick method. Use a narrower can inside a wider can. Pull names from the narrow/inside can. Place the stick between the two cans. To students, it looks like you're putting their stick back into rotation but YOU can make sure each student gets a turn.

Edit: Flippity has other uses as well!

I use an app called Popsicle Sticks. I can put each class in, and it will make groups of different numbers, call random names, and etc. I love it. It was $3 I think.

I just put my name in flippity. Works just like popsicle sticks! That's great!

calling on students

I use name cards. But another way is to have students call on each other. I may start and then ask Johnny to call the next person, etc. Another way to randomly call and I don't have to make the decision

There is an online spinner that you can use. Not sure what it is called, but I have seen it. I'm sure someone on here knows what it is. You could also buy one. We had a principal who had one with all the teachers names on it and she would use it at faculty meetings to call on teachers or give out prizes.
