Hi. I am so happy there is a high school board!
This year I am being split between two schools. I am replacing two full time people at two schools and all I can think of is how unhappy everyone will be. I won't be able to do as much work as two people.Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

You're replacing two full-time teachers? What will you be doing?

Will your case-load at each school be smaller than the previous teachers case-loads?

This is because of budget reductions. I THINK I am teaching ELD to ELLs, but I am not sure because one of the principals hasn't contacted me yet and the other principal is retiring. Apparently, the caseload is the same.

Are you in a public school with union designated work loads or an anythng goes private/charter school?

If in public school make sure they don't stick you with extra classes. If you re supposed to get a planning bell make sure its not the time spent in your car between schools. They like to do that to people. Try to eat lunch at one school and have your plan at the other. That way you will get to know people.

Don't worry, the teaching staff will not expect you to do two jobs. You'll teach the classes assigned to you and move to the next school. Decide with your supervisor what to do about afterschool meetings. You can't be in two places at once and shouldn't have to go to twice as many. Neither should you have to submit to two sets of evaluations, parents nights, weekend sports duties etc

If your district has a union, I'd call your rep ASAP to dicsuss these issues. Look at the bright side. By teaching at two schools, you get to make twice as many friends.

Thanks, xcaped. That sounds like good, practical advice. I particularly like the mindset of making new friends! I did talk to the union. The rep said I will get travel time.

Being itinerant can be rough! Decide on a home school so you can get all of your mail at one place, ask to be placed on both email lists so you don't miss announcements and such. Don't overdo it is my best advice. You are doing the job of two people but you are only one person. Let your admin know if it is getting too overwhelming.
