New Student Refuses to Go to Class

Help! We have a new student who refuses to enter his classroom. The first couple of days he stood at the office the ENTIRE day. He didn't really make a sound, just wanted to stay there instead of his classroom. He is now willing to go to our study hall room. This student has now been here 2 weeks and has spent a total of one hour in his classroom. We suspect there are major problems at home and child services is involved but I need help on what to do at school.

How old? What are some of his favorite things? Could some of his favorite items be placed in the classroom? If you can't get him into the classroom, can you bring someone from the classroom to him? They could spend a little bit of time with him each day doing something he likes to do and gradually build more time in and more students?

Good luck! Let us know how it goes!
