I am due on Sunday. Today I had my weekly appointment and am only a fingertip dialated!! A fingertip - that is funny! My next appointment is not until next Friday and they scheduled an induction date of the 21st just in case. I really hope that she does not wait that long!! Any advice or good stories for me?

They come out when they are ready and not a moment before!!! Relax and enjoy these final days. I know you want more time with her before you go back to work, but they need to "cook" as long as they can. I have had an early baby and a late baby (10 days overdue) and the late baby did not have any troubles but the early one did!

From my experience with my own pregnancy and knowing about my friends' pregnancies, you can be barely dilated and go into labor the next day, or you could be really dilated and still have to wait a week or two. The amount of dilation isn't indicative of when you will go into labor.

I had a doctor's appointment on a Tuesday and was only 1 cm dialated. My doctor thought that it would be a least two more weeks before I had him. By Saturday eening, I was in full labor and he was born early Sunday morning.

Just be patient and enjoy these last few days. Your little one will come soon.

I wasn't dilated at all one week before DS was born, 3 cm when admitted to the hospital (after a couple hours of mild labor). He was born an hour and a half later Once it gets started it can go really fast

I was dilated 3 cm and induced a week early. I know some do not agree with early induction but I am so thankful that I was induced early! I had been having pre-term contractions for 7 weeks prior, had been on bedrest, and was medicated to stop the contractions. I was also starting to swell and have issues with high blood pressure so I was very thankful when my ob agreed to induce. My induction went smoothly (had a few issues with the epi) and I was only in active labor for an hour. Thank goodness they induced because they found meconium when they broke my water and ds weighed 8.8oz. It also took a couple of hours for my bp to come down after delivery.

I was 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced.....had to be induced 2 weeks after my due date and ended up with a c-section (which I am extremely grateful for!) and have a very happy, easy baby (even though I am a stressed, exhausted, overwhelmed mommy!)

Enjoy these last days.....they are a lot easier to care for inside than out!

I walked a lot before I was due, and I think it helped. I had a baby in May. I went to the Dr for a visit on Thurs. and was just 2 cm dilated and went into labor on Fri. My advice is to enjoy your free days while you can, and sleep as much as possible.

First baby...jury duty, sat for two days...she was born the next day...FOUR weeks early!

Second baby...tornado sirens went off at 9:00 pm...the next morning woke up to contractions 5 min apart...he was born that night...THREE weeks early.

So needless to say I doubt those two things helped me "speed" up labor...I think I was destined to have my babies early.

However, I will say that my dr did say the hospitals are EXTRA busy when the barametric drops...so pray for storms!

The first one didn't work so I had to try again! I wasn't dialated at all either time. But due to my complications I wasn't allowed to go on or past my due date. I know some people don't believe in being induced, but given the choice I'd do it every time.
