Have they ever heard of DAP? This is my daughters SIX worksheets from two days. We were even absent one day and that why some are blank. Did I mention that she JUST turned two in Dec? I had enough yesterday and went to the director after some comments made by her "teacher". I use the term teacher loosely...what happened with play based learning... Now, i am NOT anti worksheets at all. I have taught kinder, first, preschool and now prek. But I do NOT even use this amount of worksheets in two weeks in my class! Now the director does not want to cause drama..,but wants to have a DAP training day put together by me...yea, no drama there.

I would be furious. Babies need to play at two. Maybe I might let the worksheets slide around late threes.

Poor kids.

I would be upset. My little guy goes to preschool 2 days per week and we see that many worksheets coming home plus get homework. If I had another option right now, I would send him elsewhere. It is too much!

Yet, some administrators think those teachers are the great teachers and those who use DAP just play all day!

This is wrong on so many levels!!!!!!!!

I can see a coloring sheet here and there, but there learning should be through play songs, movement, and hands-on activities at this age!

This is crazy. Tracing for 2 year old? Does this teacher has any imagination? Just cutting number 2 and decorating it would be nice activity. Please tell me they do art with paint and all and no worksheets.

Like the PP said, this is also lazy as hell. I know two year olds are chaos with art supplies and clay. Who wouldn't like to throw a stack of copies on a table with chunky crayons? No mess. Looks like the babies "are learning".
Oh well, burn them out young.

But only when this " teacher " is not there! I am always offering, tell me what you need for your classroom to them. I am buying some plastic containers to turn them into sensory bins and giving them things for them. I took a felt board with number, shapes and animal peices and said teacher told them that they should not being using this kind of stuff until they can recognize it ....i am assuming she meant by on a paper? This classroom Also has a dry erase board and they have to sit on the rug and watch HER teach. It hasnt been like this all year, just the past few weeks. They essentially hired this person for next year and so, she went ahead and took over it bc the other ladies are moving. I mentioned the first week that they shouldnt be doing the w.s to the director and and the nursey director and they looked at me like i was the insane one...neither of them have actual degrees in education. But it looks like the director will be willing to work with me on this, so we shall se. This classroom has binders full of worksheets!

What is wrong with this person?! I teach 3-5 y.o. And do not use worksheets. Poor babies. What is her degree in? Does she have ANY experience? Do you know any other parents who realize how wrong this is and perhaps can join you in protesting this? Directors listen to squeaky wheels and wouldn't want to lose children ($$$). Perhaps they will listen if more people express concern?

I think mamaduffyof3 is right. Get other parents on board. Print some articles, studies, etc. you have the power to change the craziness before the school will think that using worksheet in preschool on daily basis is normal.

Worksheets

That is a special level of crazy!! Even in kindergarten, I believe we have to be very discerning with the types of worksheets we choose. Pre-k and earlier, they don't belong there at all!

Are they Accredited?

Hi there,
I'm a little late in joining the discussion here, but is your child's center nationally accredited? (Either by NAEYC, NAC, or similar) If so, they highly frown upon the use of worksheets at any age. I can see them having a big issue with this! Might be worth looking into...
