Who else is having a hard time?

I just find it such a struggle to implement RC at the beginning of the year! The kids drive me NUTS with the calling out, not knowing procedures (or remembering them after I tell them FIFTY TIMES! lol), and so on. I find it frustrating and reallllly hard to stay calm and not resort to the negative teacher language that is so easy to slip into!
I guess it will just take time....

It is sooooo hard! I find myself starting to resort back to the negative teacher language. I have been pretty good about keeping it inside and thinking about what I say.

If only I had oodles more patience!

This has been my calmest/best beginning of the year thus far, though!

Best of luck! Just keep on practicing those procedures and use lots of modeling! Focus on what you WANT, not what you don't. I know, WAY easier said than done

Seriously, though, I love this RC stuff! It makes me feel like a better teacher!

I have been using RC for 6 years and it truly does work! It takes A LOT of time in the beginning though, which is sometimes the downside. Just think...the time you put in now will benefit you and your kids in the long run. Good luck!

Thanks everyone - that made me feel better! Glad I'm not the only one. Any tips for how to handle kids who are ignoring directions, not completing work, shouting (some of the things I've been dealing with the last 2 days!) ?

It gets easier, I think it's important to remember that it will pay out later in the year. I'm noticing it already in just 2 weeks. My children are like a different breed compared to the other second grade classes. I'm not going to fib and say I haven't had to raise my voice a couple of times, but as soon as I do [because it's not often], my kids know I'm not playing.

Some tips...tell your students that by ____ time [week 3] you expect to only have to remind them 1 time. I did that with my students this week, and found they were much more attentive because they know that starting next week, I'm not repeating myself 50 times. I also have been ignoring my shouter outers, and finding that my other kiddos are trying to correct them. They also realize that I'm ignoring them because they aren't following procedure and then usually put their hand up after they've shouted out because I don't recognize them.
