Application sent!

Adoption Application is sent! I was so nervous and excited while making copies at staples I was actually shaking. Crazy lady here. I sent the whole package certified mail so Iíd know when it got there. Again crazy lady.

Weíve started to tell more friends and family and everyone has been so kind and supportive. I made an 11th hour decision to share our plans at our end of year staff meeting. All my coworkers were thrilled for us. It felt really good and made things feel more real.

Happy Anniversary! Am I right?

Congratulations! We sent in our stuff last week for another adoption (as you know) and it is so nice to feel like all those papers are behind us. Best of luck on a smooth and quick adoption! So excited for you! Truly. My kids are the best thing that ever happened, and I am always excited to here someone else begin their journey!

We are on our third home study. Every agency is different but generally...

1. They are not out to get you. (This is important to remember because you are so emotionally invested.) Most of the stuff they ask is because someone told them to ask it.

2. There is no such thing as privacy. They will ask for your financial records, medical records, your driving history, etc. They will ask intrusive questions.

3. In a world that screams not to judge others and anything goes, home studies are very judgmental. Know what your agency values. (You probably already know this but it is important to be consistent and that you use an agency that is consistent with your values.)

4. If you and your husband are interviewed separately, make sure you and your husband talk about some sample questions (look online) so you match in your responses. You don't want huge gaps in your responses. I think it is unlikely that you won't match but still important if you haven't discussed topics like contact with birthparents, race, discipline, etc.

It is really not hard. If you and your husband communicate well and honestly, I think it will be a walk in the park. Best of luck to you!

One thing to add... if itís not in writing it didnít happen. Always send back up emails to phone calls and c/c supervisors in on the emails. Keep a running daily log.. mine is on google docs. I add text receipts and pictures of things as necessary (including scans of documents that I then link to the google doc).

This has been the single best thing Iíve done.
