I "graduated" in 2014.

What major things have you done since you graduated?

For me:

1. Heal broken ankle and surgery
2. Trip to Spain and Mediterranean cruise
3. Done home remodeling

Since my retirement I have

1. Attended the funerals of 2 aunts, one uncle, and my cousin's husband. The last one was actually a traditional surfer paddle out to spread his ashes in the Pacific Ocean.
2. Traveled to Europe twice (Spain, Croatia, Bosnia, Great Britain, Holland), to Mexico (which kind of doesn't count since it is only 30 miles from where I live ) and South America twice (Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Chile). Also took a road trip along the Pacific Coast to see my DD and family in Washington state.
3. Remodeled two bathrooms and added a half bath (toilet and sink) so guests don't have to use the bathroom in our master bedroom or use the one on the other floor.

I have:
1) spent a week in Cuba
2) spent a week in Rome and then cruised down the Danube to Budapest
3) DH has had a total ankle replacement AND new heart valve so I got to be nurse twice
4) just another week or so and I'll be the Mother of the Bride for DD
5) taken up watercolor - love classes on line and through adult ed
6) planned two trips for this year: first is to Russia and then London for the whole month of August followed by a week in Venice in October and then a sail down the Adriatic coast along Italy, Croatia, and Montenegro, ending up in Malta
7) taken my DD and my sister to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for 10 days right after "graduation" as my own retirement gift to myself
8) begun volunteering for adult literacy through the public library
9) mentored two first year teachers
10) been to Cleveland, Chicago, New Hampshire, and Texas to visit family

Whew! I didn't know I'd gotten so much done. This is kind of fun. Mostly I feel like a self-indulgent slacker! Life is full and great!

My husband had Moh's surgery on his forehead to remove skin cancer. We hope it doesn't come back--again. He had surgery in this same spot a few years ago.

I hope your melanoma is cured now!

Isn't it great--travelling. We loved Spain so much last year that we decided to return this year! We are going back in August. We, too, remodeled two bathrooms.

I remember your husband's ankle replacement well. How is he walking now? Your husband and I were "broken" about the same time. My ankle is working fine now. I'm even doing some running.

My Melanoma was very early and the dr assured me that they got it all in the surgery. 😊 All that remains is a 4 inch scar and a dent in my leg! I hope your husbands cancer is also gone for good!

Well, I am glad you had a roll call for us. I have to be honest...I bailed out on y'all for good while. I have been busy and for a period of time I just kind of withdrew from all my old life.
I missed the camaraderie of teachers who are retired, so I just randomly popped back in today and saw this.
I definitely will be checking back in more.

I lost my step dad to cancer in May as I was retiring and my mother fell and broke her hip. I had also planned my daughter's wedding in February right before retirement, so I will say I was exhausted when June finally came.

I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis and really got down that first year out instead of getting better as I had hoped.

I spent a good bit of time going back and forth between my mom's house and here taking care of her and trying to put affairs in order.

That was all the bad, but I have had good too.

I moved my mother to my town in December. She is doing a ton better. She has definitely slowed down with age and the past two year's events, but we are headed in the right direction.

I decided to visit a wellness doctor...long story here, but I have lost almost 27 pounds. I was 150...now 123 ---5'3". Feeling so much better. I had a melanoma caused by all the meds I was on for RA, but I am officially off of all meds with the modified diet and exercise and I feel so amazing.

We purchased some land less than an hour away and have a small garden. Lots of fun.

All in all, I am at a good spot.

Just need to find more time for my hobbies.

I will checking in daily people

Thanks, Carolyn. His ankle is better, but not 100% perfect. He swims daily and rides a bike, so he can stay active, but walking a lot or standing in museums is not fun. Half an Aleve helps, though.

Glad to hear YOU are doing so well. Hurrah!
